The museum honors and preserves the heroic stories of those who were awarded France’s second-highest honor, the Order of the Liberation. It was during the Second World War that General de Gaulle established the Order of Liberation, of which he became the grand master.

The collection of over 2,000 pieces includes covert radio transmitters, weapons, original drawings created in concentration camps, and enemy pennants claimed on battlefields in Europe and Africa. Many of the pieces were donated by those honored here – the Companions of the Liberation – or by their families.

One room is dedicated to the founder of the Order, Charles de Gaulle, presenting all his French and foreign decorations, his last military outfit, and the original manuscript for his famous “To all French people” appeal poster.
