Created by the painter’s niece Marie Henner in 1921, the museum comprises over 130 portraits, biblical scenes, and mythological landscapes by the artist in his trademark symbolist style. You’ll also find approximately 1,000 sketches, documents, and souvenirs to peruse that give an insight into the artist's thoughts and processes.

Henner’s style of Symbolism was in great contrast to the Realist movement of the time. He was deeply influenced by the painting of the Italian Renaissance and the museum includes a plethora of his drawings and sketches that follow the evolution of his process.

• Henner won the Grand Prix de Rome for painting in 1858 with Adam and Ėve finding Abel's body. 
• Henner was a sought-after portrait painter and was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. 
• Henner’s paintings can be found at Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. and The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, as well as other museums.
